Most riders have a favourite lube for a specific job, and a minimum of two lubes on their shelf. Some of us have tried pretty much every bottle trying to find the perfect lube that goes on, stays on, and doesn’t make a mess of the jockey wheels and chainrings.
For some of you weirdos, this all sounds a bit much and just squirt whatever comes to hand on their chain, and give it no more thought. If this is you, them we don’t know if we envy you, or feel sorry for you…
If your fetish is the right lube for the job, then roll up and check out the best new lube we’ve tried this year – Smoove.
It needs a proper clean of the old lube off (including factory oil if the chain is brand new) and the Smoove prep or Park Chain Brite stuff is excellent, and even better when you use a Park Chain Bath CM-5. It’s not that much of a faff: fill the bath with a bit of degreaser, back pedal 50 revolutions or so, rinse off and dry, and then apply Smoove.
Of all of the dry, clean lubes we’ve tried, this one stays on the chain the longest, and where we find Squirt often needs reapplying after a wet ride (still great road lube for your Sunday bike), Smoove seems to last that bit longer.
